Sumit Dass

Assistant Professor II

Sumit Dass received his B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Government Engineering College, Raipur, in 2008, and his M.Tech. in Laser and Electro-Optics from the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune, in 2011. He earned his Ph.D. in Optical Fiber Sensing from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, in 2019. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, Florida Atlantic University, USA, for two and a half years. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor-II at the School of Electronics Engineering, KIIT Bhubaneswar. His research focuses on developing optical technologies, including 3D imaging systems and fiber-optic sensors, for applications in marine ecology, environmental monitoring, and biomedical sciences.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Sumit Dass’s research focuses on advancing optical technologies for marine ecology, environmental monitoring, and biomedical applications. He is developing 3D optical imaging systems, including stereo imaging and holography, for high-resolution mapping and precise characterization of marine organisms. To improve automation and accuracy in data analysis, he is also designing AI and ML pipelines for processing and classifying data from these imaging systems. His expertise extends to the design and development of optical fiber-based sensors. He is actively working on high-precision, cost-effective photonic sensors for real-world applications, aiming to enhance performance in biomedical and agricultural fields.
