Soumya Mohapatra is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the School of Law, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (Deemed- to-Be-University) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She holds her Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her interest areas include Sociology of Religion, Sociology of Gender, Migration Studies. During her Ph.D., she had also worked as a research assistant for a project dealing with children living in urban poverty. She has participated and presented papers in various national as well as international conferences and seminars

She holds her Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

COURSE EXPERTISE

She teaches Introduction to Sociology, Contemporary Sociological Issues, Explorations in Social Inequalities and Law and Society. These papers are aimed at fostering critical thinking by relooking at commonly held assumptions about social concepts, events, forms and processes. us analyse and evaluate everyday conjectures and notions, biases, stereotypes using evidence from the society. This would help in achieving a more nuanced and complex appreciation of the intricate inter-relationship between personal lives and the larger social structures.

Her interest areas include Sociology of Religion, Sociology of Gender, Migration Studies.

Administrative Responsibilities

She is a member of the Ph.D. Program and Research Committee, School Level Research Committee, the Equivalence Committee, KIIT Centre for Social Action, Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies; the co-faculty in charge of KIIT Centre of Tribal Affairs Research and Advocacy.
